Morristown Memorial Hospital

Planning:

I wanted to shadow at Morristown Memorial Hospital because of it's amazing reputation.  I then looked up on the official website of the hospital important contacts, read all the information about volunteering, and applied online for the adult volunteer program.  Within a few days not hearing anything back I decided to take the initiative to go to the hospital in person and physically speak to someone about Option II.  I meet with Kim Goryeb and expressed to her every ounce of detail about Option II and my plan for my year.  She was moved by my passion and enthusiasm she hired me on the spot and set me up with my mentor Lisa Ciarrocca.

Experience:

To sum up my experience in a few words - It confirmed my passion.

The time I've spent in the PICU allowed me to embrace my goals. Shadowing the nurse proved to me that I am truly passionate in becoming a nurse.

What I've taken from it:

I've learned that to become a nurse one must learn to have patience and a tough skin.  I'm a very emotional person and although I care gravely about an individual, I know that I will be able to balance both aspects to become a successful nurse.
